Literacy Programme

Fort Songadh and the vicinity being tribal areas, a large section of society mainly women are still illiterate; the literacy rate for female population is just 42%. We are focusing on Adult Literacy in an organized manner and have started Adult Literacy Program in the year 2004. Under robust efforts, the Plant has opened 168 nos. of centers successfully and made 4292 people literate from 2004 to till 12th March 2016.

This project involves identifying illiterates, finding volunteer-teachers, selecting a place for conducting ALP Classes for 6 months, providing books & stationery and arranging for learning assessment followed by a Valedictory programme.

J K Paper Limited has adopted and upgraded I.T.I. ( Industrial Training Institute) Ukai under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

In order to achieve high growth rate of industrial development, the most important aspect is availability of skilled technical manpower.  Skilled manpower is required to handle technology and to produce quality goods and services to achieve competitive edge globally.

What the industry ( JK Paper) wanted was skilled workforce responsive and fully equipped with knowledge and technology as per their requirements. Since the existing I.T.I.s were not producing trained manpower as required by the industry, the new scheme of PPP was conceived by the Central Government to improve the training for producing multi-skilled workforce, thereby leading to better employability.

J K Paper Limited has adopted  I.T.I. Ukai and started working on the project in the year 2008. Till now, the training imparted by the institute was not industry specific. Institute was not having the latest equipment and facilities to train the students properly. This led to a problem where the students passing out of the institute did not get jobs, while the industries did not receive trained manpower as per their requirements. Non-availability of skilled manpower had been an impediment to the industry for quite some time.

Sewing Machine Operator Trade COPA Trade Fitter Trade
Wireman Trade Electronics Trade Welder Trade

After taking over the institutes under PPP model, the plant has done lot of improvement to reduce the gap between training of the students and industry requirements.

2 new trades of Electrician and Attendant Operator Chemical Plant were introduced and 6 existing trades were upgraded by the year 2010. Most of the students passed out are getting jobs in the industry. The strength of students has increased from 246 in 2008 (Year of adoption) to 431 in 2013 . We are pleased to inform that I.T.I., Ukai is declared now the Center Of Excellence (COE) and has been recognized one of the best I.T.I. under PPP mode in Gujarat.
